NorthEast RF provides passive antenna testing and over the air (OTA) device test services. Our fast near field spherical test system and 3 day turnaround is ideal for product design validation and small batch performance verification. Devices up to 18″ in diameter and 10Kg in weight are supported.

Passive Antenna Testing. The first step towards successfully combining an antenna with active electronics is to understand the antennas stand-alone performance. We measure 2D | 3D radiation patterns, efficiency and return-loss. The test data is supplied with a pattern viewer or an easy-to-read test report.

Active Device TestingAn over-the-air (OTA) pre-compliance test phase is essential prior to formal CTIA approval and carrier compliance (Verizon, AT&T) testing. This helps avoid mishaps and delays. Using a R&S CMW500 communication test set, we measure TRP (total radiated power) and TIS (total isotropic sensitivity). A test report is generated which includes radiation patterns, TRP | TIS | along with pass fail criteria and margin.

Conducted Return Loss Measurements. Additionally, using a vector network analyser (VNA) we can measure the antenna return-loss prior to radiated measurements to verify the antenna matching circuit meets expectations and determine if further matching optimization is needed.

Phantoms. To evaluate the performance of hand held or body worn devices, we have a selection of CTIA approved head and hand phantoms. This allows the device under test (DUT) to be located in a variety of positions and can be used for either passive antenna testing or active device testing.

We have an exceptional variety of 2D and 3D visualization aids. This will help you interpret the measured data and analyze the antenna performance. Our basic level of service includes a free radiation pattern viewer. You can rotate the 3D pattern to help align the DUT with test results. Then confidently display 2D cuts at any azimuth, or elevation. Or we can provide a customized antenna test report to meet your precise needs.

Antennas located next to the human body tend to radiate poorly and are extremely difficult to optimize. This is due to the lossy human dielectric (skin, fat, muscle & bones etc.) that absorbs power radiated toward the body and  detunes the antenna. This is a challenging environment. To evaluate the performance of body worn devices NorthEast RF antenna testing service have a selection of indexSAR head and hand phantoms. This allows the device under test (DUT) to be located next to an approved FCC | CTIA phantom, the return-loss  optimized and antenna radiated performance measured.
