OTA Testing - Over the Air

Over the Air - OTA Testing

Active Device Testing. An over-the-air pre-compliance test phase (OTA testing) is essential prior to formal CTIA approval and carrier compliance (Verizon, AT&T) testing. This helps avoids mishaps and delays. Using a R&S CMW500 communication test set, we measure TRP (total radiated power) and TIS (total isotropic sensitivity). A test report is generated which includes radiation patterns, TRP | TIS | along with pass fail criteria and margin. All tests are carried out as per CTIA and carrier compliance requirements. At this time we offer 2G | 3G | WCDMA | Classis LTE.

TRP - Total Radiated Power

Total radiated power (TRP) is a measurement of the performance of a cellular transmitter coupled to its antenna whilst using its over the air protocol. TRP is the sum of all radiated power integrated over the surface area of the antenna ie in all directions.

TIS - Total Isotropic Sensitivity

Similarily, total isotropic sensitivity (TIS) is a measurement of the performance of a cellular receiver coupled to its antenna whilst using its over the air protocol. TIS is the sum of all received power integrated over the surface area of the antenna ie in all directions.

OTA Testing using CMU500

We use an appoved MVG StarLab anechoic chamber and Rohde & Schwartz CMW500 to perform over the air CTIA pre-compliance TRP (total radiated power) and TIS total isotropic sensitivity measurements. For hand held and next to body applications we use IndexSAR CTIA approved head and hand phantoms.
